Swan House Accessibilty Report
Accessibility Report Swan House, Tarrington

The house being Listed Grade 2 by English Heritage, and dating from 1683-and with the strong possibility of early parts from the 1500’s, it must be stressed that it is not accessible to all physically disabled persons. It is virtually impossible to alter given its design and listing. However with our assistance if necessary and with advice prior to making a reservation we are able to accommodate varying disabilities, as we have previously done on many occasions.

A description of the house and accommodation follows-

General Information

The house is 400yards from the main road, where a bus service is available which connects to Hereford, Ledbury and beyond-which includes the railway stations at Hereford and Ledbury. The local DRM buses have special steps which lower to the height of the kerb and are accessible to wheelchairs and prams etc. There is plenty of off road parking on our private driveway. Secure parking for bicycles and motor bikes is available on request.

From the driveway there is level access (0.91m wide) to the Garden Room (4.92mx2.48m), no steps to or within the room or to the bathroom (1.63mx3.10m). There is a large curved shower cubicle fitted with a power shower, a basin and toilet. A window overlooks the court yard and another over the rear garden. A convenient light switch from the bed controls the overhead lights and there are also bedside lights. From this room there is a short, level covered walkway with access to the rear door and onwards to the dining room. There is just 1 step and then another 2 small steps but we are here to assist if you want us to!

The Cider Store-(6.93mx4.29m) is situated on the lower ground floor, the house itself being built on a slope. This room has 2 entrances. On first entering, by the front door, you would be shown through the porch and dining room, then down a flagged set of original stairs. These are the stairs by which you would come up to breakfast. When in situ you would use your private door, under the original porch to the level access beyond. Don’t forget to duck as this door is lowish and wide; and very, very old. The bathroom (2.74mx1.95m) has the original roll top bath–with a hand shower attachment- as well as a toilet and hand wash basin. There are bedside lamps and a convenient light switch to operate the rest of the wall lights whilst you are in bed. If you are not able to use the stairs it would be possible to serve breakfast within the room.

The Courtyard Room – (4.47mx3.50m) is also separate from the house and can be accessed in 2 ways; from the laneway in front and side of the house or from the courtyard steps. It has its own private sitting area and one can park your car in that area, if you wish. The double room has one step into it and also contains within it the shower room – a double shower- as well as basin and toilet. There is a window to the courtyard and laneway.

All the rooms have ground floor level access.

The flower garden has steps within it but there is a separate area of lawn that also has seating and a garden table. No steps

We do not pretend that the house is accessible to all, the age and design precludes it but we are always very willing to provide help and advice.

We are a also able to supply special diets on request and specialise in Gluten Free food.
